New IRS-ICE deal breaks long-standing protections, raising alarm ahead of major court challenge

CHICAGO — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has reached an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials to share confidential taxpayer information with law enforcement, according to court records filed late Monday. In a government filing late yesterday, the government disclosed that the IRS and ICE had finalized a deal that would allow immigration agents to request taxpayer information from the IRS for the purposes of deportation.
